А вот ферритин – это не то же самое, что уровень железа в крови, в отличие от гемоглобина. Это специфический белок, который накапливает внутри себя этот микроэлемент. Железо всасывается из пищи и переносится другим специальным белком – трансферрином.

Ферритин не циркулирует в крови, а хранится в наших клетках. Больше всего его находится в клетках печени и костного мозга. Таким образом, ферритин представляет собой своеобразный склад железа в нашем теле. Оно хранится до тех пор, пока организму не потребуется больше железа, чем обычно. Когда уровень железа снизится, наше тело подаст сигнал, и железо высвободится из ферритина.
